About the Custer House Museum
The Custer House, 24A Sheridan Ave, is the house that most closely represents the architecture and style of home that General Custer and his wife Libby would have stayed in at Fort Riley. General Custer's house burned due to a kitchen fire. Quarters 24A has been restored and is complete with correct time period furnishings.
The only remaining set of officers' quarters from the fort's construction in the mid-1850s—furnishings date from the 1870s and 1880s. Period rooms include a front parlor, dining room, kitchen, servant's room, family room, and upstairs bedrooms. Docents are available for group tours by submitting an official request.
Below is some of what you will encounter on a tour of the Custer House.
